    FINAL PROJECT

    Day 76 - 80

    1. Projects Excel Internet Data Analysis  AND  Excel My Business should be complete unless you have already handed in your ACCESS - MY BUSINESS project.
    2. Project - Access My Business
      • Due by the end of this week.
      • You will want to complete, or at least get started on the Access Lessons from the text before starting.
      • Microsoft has some new tutorial type info here. If you get stuck, this is a great place to get some answers.
    3. BLOG Comments - Leave 1 new comment on each of the following: [due weekly]  
      • The Bulldog - The "Online Publishing" students appreciate your feedback.
      • Blog-a-Perspective - Please scroll to the bottom for the most current posts on my Blog which will lead you to the most current posts on the College Computer Applications students' Blogs. Log in to Blogger FIRST.
    4. Scratch Exploration
      • Not assignment yet, but there will be extra credit potential before the end of the semester.
      • Find the Scratch Cat desktop icon and see what you can figure out.
      • Also, if time and motivation permits, check out the http://scratch.mit.edu/ web site.
        • You can create an account, download a version at home for free, compete with others around the world, check out, copy, and improve programs developed by other people, and generally fulfill some of your curiosity.
      • Scratch is a programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art -- and share your creations on the web. As you create and share Scratch projects, you will learn important mathematical and computational ideas, while also learning to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively.
      • Scratch will be a bigger part of College Computer Applications next semester and next year.  Enjoy!

    Day 70 -75

    1. Project Excel Internet Data Analysis
      • Go to Sharepoint and look in the project folder of our Shared Documents.Check the updated Rubric!
      • Text in RED will be graded "softly". They are extra challenging. You have the skills to do most of the red text tasks. I hope your curiosity and work ethic will enable you to complete them all. You are expected to ask for help from other students (and me if needed). 
    2. Project Excel My Business
      • Go to Sharepoint and look in the project folder of our Shared Documents. Check the updated Rubric!

      • Begin on page 729 in the text. Do not skip the lessons. Take the time to read, yes READ the words on the pages.

      • Complete the Knowledge Assessment sections too.  This will be helpful on the quizzes.

      • Take a look at this.  You will want/need to get started on the Access Lessons before getting to deep into the project.

    Our Building Improvement Team (BIT) has been asked to collect input and develop recommendations on a very important topic that affects us all - the schedule of our high school day. The BIT's Mission is to promote collaboration between students, teachers, parents, staff, and administrators in an effort to positively impact Student Achievement.  One of our student BIT representatives, Dylan Phelps, has created a Blog to help the BIT collect student input.  Hopefully, students will follow this link and offer their valuable opinions. http://achsstudentandfacultyscheduleinput.blogspot.com/

        • Some ideas ... that I think might interest the class (and would certainly be a learning opportunity for us all) ... racism, media violence, ... choose "view all" from the website for great topics.

    Day 41

    1. Present your Google Team Presentation 
    2. Leave a comment on two (2) of the Blogs on this the Blog-a-Perspective Project from the College Computer Apps class. Scroll to the Bottom to see the newest ones.
    3. Leave two (2) comments on the Alden Bulldog Online Newspaper.
    4. Begin the PowerPoint Lessons (page 520 in the MS Office 2007 book)
      • Complete the Projects from lessons 1 to 5.
        • You will have to refer to the lessons to learn some of the skills needed to complete the projects.
      • Complete the Knowledge Assessments (only matching, T/F, multiple choice for each lesson as you go.  This will be helpful for upcoming quizzes.

    Day 37

    1. Make up Missing Past Due Quizzes and Project - grades close Friday.
    2. Continue previous projects.

    1. Quick Blog Check and update your google doc - rename to Block#-lastname-update6.
    2. Google Team Projects
      • Are your team's google docs SHARED with each team member and me at aturton@aldenschools.org.
      • You should not be verbally discussing the project once your teams are set.
      • CHECK your team's Google Docs every 15 minutes during class to be sure your group is not stuck waiting for your input, answers, ideas, progress, ...
      • All discussion should appear in a typed format that is neatly organized in the google doc.  The amount of written discussion will affect your grade for this project.  Be sure you contribute!!!!
    3. Business and Marketing Honor Society (first year at our school)
      • Open the application from the FBLA folder in my Sharepoint. 
      • Complete the application and submit it to me.
    4. MS Excel Spreadsheets
      • Go to the MS Excel Lessons page of my website.
      • Follow the instructions and put in the Drop Box when your are done.
      • TIP: Do NOT skip to the Lessons.  You will most likely need to go step-by-step through the lessons.  You will have time to get it all done if your work diligently every day.  
      • QUIZ FRIDAY on skills up to the end of lesson 5.

    Day 30

    • Quick Blog Check and update your google doc - rename to Block#-lastname-update6.

      • Mr. Smith has your team assignments.  Block 3 also has them in Sharepoint in the 2010 class roster file. (unfortunately, I had issues with Sharepoint from home so I could not update the file.)
      • Someone in your team will have to take the lead and create a google doc per the Project Guidelines in Sharepoint and SHARE IT with each team member as me at aturton@aldenschools.org.
      • Each of your needs to read the project guidelines.
      • You should not be verbally discussing the project once your teams are set.

    • EXCEL Quiz 7 - due by end of class, so start early.
      • Open the MS Book to page 401.

      • Add the filename to the header.
      • Add the date and time in the footer.
      • Complete the True/False Knowledge Assessment.
      • You may use the book and Excel itself to answer the questions, but you may not ask other students. (turn you monitor to the side a bit when you are taking the quiz.)
      • Print the Quiz and put it in the correct pile on my skinny desk in the middle of the room.

    Day 29

      • Go to the Create a Blog and Show Us All and choose a few Blogs to FOLLOW.
      • Keep updating your Block#-lastname-update5.
      • Ahead on other projects?

    2. Keyboarding Lessons
      • Go to http://www.typing-lessons.org/ (Peter's Online Typing Course) to practice. 
      • Create a SENTENCE (or 2) by using the letters you have learned so far (asdfjklghqwertyuiopnm,./? and shift) and practice typing them 10 times in your Block#-lastname-update5 google doc. 
    3. Google Team Project
      • Follow THIS LINK and take the Personality Test.
      • Print Screen your results and paste it into a MS Word Document titled block#-lastname-personality.
      • Open Project - Team Google Presentation from the Shared Docs - Projects folder for this course in my Sharepoint.
      • Review the Topic Options.  Write your name and which two topics sound the most interesting to you on a scrap of paper and give it to me.

    Day 17 - 18 

    1. Continue with any unfinished Day 16 Tasks.
    2. Chidren's Book Project
      • This project will take several days to complete and is designed to apply the Word skills from the lessons up to 5. You should only spend significant time on this when your lessons are complete.
      • Go to SharePoint - Mr. Turton - Keyboard & Comp Apps - Shared Docs.
      • Open the "Project - Childrens Book" file. Follow the instructions for how to set up the book and read the Rubric.
      • Students who are behind and want to catch up, but not get full credit for this project may benefit from using the "Project - Childrens Book Template" file in SharePoint.
    3. Upload Completed Word Lessons to Sharepoint
      • Open my SharePoint site.
      • Select Dropbox from the left side menu.
      • Create a New Folder named Block # - lastname first initial - MS Lessons.
      • Create a new sub-folder named Word Lessons.
      • Create a new Item named Lesson 1. Click OK.
      • Inside the Lesson 1 item, attached each file you completed for the lesson .
      • Create a new item for Lesson 2, 3, 4, 5 and repeat the file attachment process.

    Day 16

    1. BLOG Project
      • Go to the Create a Blog and Show Us All post of my Keyboarding Computer Apps Blog.
      • Select and comment on at least 2 blogs of other students (this class or another).
    2. Google Update
      • Rename your Block#-lastname-update2 google doc as Block#-lastname-update3.
      • Continue to list your Blog Project Comments. Your most recent info will always be added to the top.  Keep it organized.
        • Include: Name of Blog and post you commented on, date (you will keep adding to this daily as you leave your 2 comments per day)
    3. Keyboarding Lessons 5 & 6 
      • Go to http://www.typing-lessons.org/ (Peter's Online Typing Course).
      • Review the prliminaries on the left side of the site.
      • Select Lesson 5 (then 6), read and practice the skills at the bottom until you are 100% accurate.
      • In your Block#-lastname-update3 google doc, type 1o words that can be made from the letters: asdfjklghqwert and shift.  Add a few common names or other proper nouns that require capitalization. 
      • Type them in a row and repeat the row of words 5 times.
    4. Typing Test (not really, just for practice for now)
      • Go to http://www.typingtest.com/, choose a story and take the test  a few times.
      • When you get your results, press the Print Screen (Print Scrn) on the right side of your keyboard.
      • Create a Word Document titled: lastname-typing test.
      • Go to Edit - Paste (or press ctrl and v).
      • Add today's date.
      • Keep track of your progress this way. 
      • Extra Credit - if you are the fastest to get 100%
    5. Microsoft WORD Lessons
      • Click on the MS Word Lessons link on the left.
      • Set up your folder per the instructions.
      • Ask your neighbor if they need help.  Coach them through the process, but do NOT touch their keyboard or mouse.
      • Complete the projects for WORD Lesson 5 by Friday. 
      • Review the Knowledge Assessment section of the lesson to learn the vocabulary.
    6. My Business Project
      • See days 09 - 10 for past questions.
      • In your gogle doc, Block#-lastname-mybiz. , list 5 to 10 employee in the business and their titles. 

    Day 09 - 10

    1. BLOG Project
      • Go to the Create a Blog and Show Us All post of my Keyboarding Computer Apps Blog.
      • Select and comment on at least 2 blogs of other students (this class or another).
    2. Google Update
      • Rename your Block#-lastname-update1 google doc as Block#-lastname-update2.
      • Continue to list your Blog Project Comments. Your most recent info will always be added to the top.  Keep it organized.
        • Include: Name of Blog and post you commented on, date (you will keep adding to this daily as you leave your 2 comments per day)

      • Start planning a business you would like to own or work at or manage. Begin by answer these questions in the google doc. (I suggest copying and pasting the questions and adding your answers.)
        • What are 3 companies where you wish you could work? Add the url of the businesses website if applicable (if it has one).
        • What do your think your job title would be on your first day of work?
        • What do your think your job title would be after 10 years with the company?
        • How large with the building or space required for your business be? Find an image of what your business could look like.
        • Where (city, state, country) would your business be located?
        • How will your business earn income?
        • What will be your biggest expenses?

    Day 07 - 08

    1. BLOG Project
      • Go to the Create a Blog and Show Us All post of my Keyboarding Computer Apps Blog.
      • Select and comment on at least 2 blogs of other students (this class or another).
    2. Google Update
      • Rename your Block#-lastname-intro google doc as Block#-lastname-update1.
      • Add an entry at the top of the document with Blog Project Comments. Your most recent info will always be added to the top.  Keep it organized.
        • Include: Name of Blog and post you commented on, date (you will keep adding to this daily as you leave your 2 comments per day)
    3. Typing Practice Words
      • In your Block#-lastname-update1 google doc, type 1o words that can be made from the letters: asdfjkl.
      • Type them in a row.
      • Repeat the row of words 5 times.
    4. Microsoft WORD Lessons
      • Click on the MS Word Lessons link on the left.
      • Set up your folder per the instructions.
      • Ask your neighbor if they need help.  Coach them through the process, but do NOT touch their keyboard or mouse.

    Days 05 - 06

    1. Social Responsibility Letter is PAST DUE.
    2. Complete Keyboarding Lesson 1 & 2
    3. Create a Blog.
      • Following the guidelines in the Create a Blog and Show Us All post of my Keyboarding Computer Apps Blog.
      • You need make your Blog topic intersting in order to generate interest from other students so they visit your Blog and leave a comment.  It is a big part of the grade for this major project.
      • Use these ACHS Library Resources
        • Opposing Viewpoints
          • I challenge you to develop you Blog around a topic listed on this website.  You can learn a lot about a topic and teach others too!
          • You need this info to login ... username: nysl_we_aldenhs, pw: empirelink
        • Proper Citing of References
          • You need to cite the sources of the information included in your Blog.
      • Hint - click on some of the other comments to see what previous students have done.  When you pick your blog topic, be sure it is something you care about.
      • Hint - You general topic will be your blog title and your sub-topics will be your post titles.
      • As you work on the blog, I encourage you to use those myspace skills you may have developed.  Of course, your audience is different now, so keep it clean and professional and interesting.

    Days 03 - 04

    1. Try to complete your Social Responsibility Letter and envelope (see days 1 - 3)
    2. Complete Keyboarding Lesson 1
      • Go to http://www.typing-lessons.org/ (Peter's Online Typing Course).
      • Review the prliminaries on the left side of the site.
      • Select Lesson 1, read and practice the skills at the bottom until you are 100% accurate. You might want to mute your sound.
      • These Left Hand Home Row keys will be on the quiz tomorrow.
    3. Complete Keyboarding Lesson 2
      • Go to http://www.typing-lessons.org/ (Peter's Online Typing Course).
      • Select Lesson 2, read and practice the skills at the bottom until you are 100% accurate.
      • These Right Hand Home Row keys will be on the quiz tomorrow.
    4. Beginning Blog Assignments
      • Create a Blogger Account with your Google Info.
      • Comment on the What is a Blog? post on my Keyboarding Computer Apps Blog.
      • Comment on the Internet Dangers post on my Keyboarding Computer Apps Blog.
      • Start to create a Blog of your own while following the guidelines in the Create a Blog and Show Us All post of my Keyboarding Computer Apps Blog.
        • Hint - click on some of the other comments to see what previous students have done.  When you pick your blog topic, be sure it is something you care about.
        • Hint - You general topic will be your blog title and your sub-topics will be your post titles.

    Days 01 thru 03

    1. Go to www.igoogle.com and create an account.
    2. Create a "Google Doc" titled Block#-lastname-intro and "Share" it with me at aturton@aldenschools.org. I will demonstrate how to do this.
      • Please write a few paragraphs about yourself.  Tell me something interesting that will help me understand the type of person you are.  You could talk about your goals for life or your past experiences or whatever.
    3. Go to our Keyboarding and Computer Apps Blog and comment on my post about Internet Dangers: http://turton-key-comp-apps-2009.blogspot.com/
    4. Go to our Blog and comment on my post about "What is a Blog?" http://turton-key-comp-apps-2009.blogspot.com/2009/09/what-is-blog.html
    5. Open the Lesson for Day. Work through each activity at your own pace.
    6. Go to www.blogger.com and create an account.  Use your Google Account info.
    7. Social Responsibility Letter Project
      • Open the project file and read the requirements.
      • Choose someone to write to.
      • Follow the project guidelines.
      • Use a MS Word Template. 
      • Proofread
        • Quick review on the screen (your own and someone elses).
        • Print yours and get 2 people (with different color pens) to use proofreader marks to identify errors.  They must neatly sign your letter on the bottom.
        • I will take 2 points of for each error I find that your group did not find.
    8. Keyboarding Records - go to the Keyboarding Page and tell me if you have set a record.  Let's get this updated today! 
    9. Start thinking ... for this course you will be applying many new computer skills to a new business that you will own. Think of something that you are passionate about and the rest will be fun and easy!

    You will have sufficient time in class to do all the required work for this course. However, if you miss class, don't use your time effectively, or want to do a little extra, you are encouraged to work on projects outside of school.  You will need Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010 for some assigments and others simply require internet access.

    I do not expect you to be able to complete all the above tasks today.  But feel free to surprise me! Tomorrow you can pick up where you left off.
