-
Chapter 11
Chapter Objective:
* Length, mass and volume can be measured using metric units of measurement.
Vocabulary:
Meter - A meter is a metric unit of length used to measure longer objects. 1 meter = 100 centimeters.
Centimeter - A centimeter is a metric unit of length used to measure shorter objects. 100 centimeters = 1 meter.
Kilometer - A kilometer is a metric unit of length used to measure lengths and distances. 1 kilometer = 1,000 meters.
Distance - The length between one place and another.
Kilogram - A metric unit used to measure lengths and distances. 1 kilogram = 1,000 grams.
Gram - A metric unit of mass used to measure lighter objects. 1,000 grams = 1 kilogram.
Liter - A metric unit of volume and capacity used to measure greater amounts of liquid. 1 Liter = 1,000 milliliters.
Milliliter - A metric unit of volume and capacity used to measure smaller amounts of liquid. 1,000 milliliters = 1 liter.
Volume - The amount of liquid in a container.
Capacity - The amount of liquid that a container can hold.
