Chapter Objective:
* Fractions can be used to describe parts of a region or parts of a set.
Vocabulary:
Whole - Complete and not divided. A fraction is a part of a whole.
Equal parts - Are parts of a whole that are of equal size.
Numerator - A number that is above the line in a fraction. It shows the number of shaded parts in a whole.
Denominator - A number that is below the line in a fraction. It shows the number of equal parts into which the whole is divided.
Equivalent fractions - Two or more fractions that name the same parts of a whole. Ex: 1/2 = 4/8
Number Line - A line that shows increasing value from left to right. It helps you find equivalent fractions and compare fractions.
Simplest Form - An equivalent fraction whose numerator and denominator cannot be divided by the same number. 1/2 is a fraction in simplest form.
