Chapter Objectives:

* Measurement is a way of assigning numbers to objects, such as by their length, weight or volume.

* When measurement is identified, it can then be compared.

Vocabulary:

meter - A meter is a basic unit of distance in the metric system. 

centimeter - A centimeter is a metric unit of distance. 100 centimeters = 1 meter                     1 centimeter = 1/100m

kilometer (km) - A kilometer is a metric unit of distance. 1 kilometer = 1000 meters

foot (ft) - A foot is a basic customary unit of distance. 1 foot = 12 inches

inch (in) - An inch is a customary unit of distance. 1 inch = 1/12 foot

mile (m) - A mile is a customary unit of distance. 1 mile = 5280 feet

yard (yd) - A yard is a customary unit of distance. 1 yard = 3 feet (or 36 inches)

kilogram (kg) - A kilogram is a metric unit of mass. 1 kilogram = 1000 grams

gram (g) - A gram is a basic metric unit of mass.

pound (lb) - A pound is a basic customary unit of weight. 1 pound = 16 ounces

ounce (oz) - An ounce is a customary unit of weight. 1 ounce = 1/16 lb
