Chapter 9 Multiplying and Dividing Decimals

    Chapter Objective:

    * Decimals can be multiplied and divided in the same way as whole numbers.


    Dividend - The number that is being divided.

    Per unit - For each unit. Used in talking about rates. Ex: The price per foot of jump rope means the price of 1 foot of jump rope.

    Estimate - A calculated guess that is close to the exact number. Ex: You can estimate the sum of 6.75 and 15.45 by rounding to the nearest whole number. 6.75 is about 7, and 15.45 is about 15. 7 + 15 = 22. The estimate of 6.75 and 15.45 is 22.

    Divisor - The number that the dividend is being divided by.
