Chapter 14 Surface Area and Volume
* The volume of cubes and rectangular prisms can be expressed as the number of cubic units they contain. The surface area of a solid is the sum of the areas of all its faces.
Unit cube - A cube whose edges are each 1 unit long.
Face - A flat surface on a solid figure.
Edge - The line segment where two faces of a solid figure meet. The line segment formed by the intersection of two faces.
Rectangular prism - A prism with six rectangular faces.
Prism - A solid figure with two parallel congruent faces joined by rectangular faces.
Base (of a solid figure) - A special face of a solid figure.
Vertex (of a solid figure) - The point where three or more edges meet.
Net - A plane figure that can be folded to make a solid figure.
Square pyramid - A pyramid that has a square base.
Triangular pyramid - A pyramid that has a triangular base.
