  • Chapter 14

    Chapter Objective:

    * The volume of cubes and rectangular prisms can be expressed as the number of cubic units they contain. The surface area of a solid is the sum of the areas of all its faces.

Unit cube - A cube whose edges are each 1 unit long.

Face - A flat surface on a solid figure.

Edge - The line segment where two faces of a solid figure meet. The line segment formed by the intersection of two faces.

Rectangular prism - A prism with six rectangular faces.

Prism - A solid figure with two parallel congruent faces joined by rectangular faces.

Base (of a solid figure) - A special face of a solid figure.

Vertex (of a solid figure) - The point where three or more edges meet.
